RNA Society Meeting 2014

The organizers of the nineteenth annual meeting of the RNA Society are delighted to announce that the meeting will be held June 3rd to June 8th in beautiful and historic Quebec City, the capital of the Province of Quebec. Quebec City, located along the banks of the Saint Lawrence River, is one of the oldest European settlements in North America. The city is served by the Jean-Lesage International Airport, which offers convenient connecting flights to several large transportation hubs. The Centre des Congrès de Québec will serve as the meeting site. The Centre is located in the heart of the city, easily accessed by public transportation.

More information about Quebec City can be found at here:  http://www.quebecregion.com/en

A smart phone App called Discover Québec is available and highly recommended by the organizing committee. Learn more here:  https://itunes.apple.com/app/discover-quebec/id688290868?mt=8

The organizers have been hard at work behind the scenes putting together an exciting program that covers new discoveries in a wide variety of traditional and emerging areas in the RNA community. The meeting will feature three keynote lectures presented by leading scientists at the top of their respective fields: Robert Schneider, Ph.D. from NYU, Phillip Zamore, Ph.D. from UMass Medical School, and Anne Ephrussi, Ph.D. from the EMBL, Heidelberg. Chairs have been selected for sixteen tentative sessions and three workshops in the following subject areas:

Sessions
1. Splicing mechanisms—Jonathan Staley
2. Alternative splicing—Ben Blencowe
3. Ribosome mechanisms and assembly—Kathrin Karbstein
4. Translational control—Wendy Gilbert
5. RNA silencing—Yukihide Tomari
6. Non-coding RNAs—Jorgen Kjems
7. Ribozymes and riboswitches—Ron Breaker
8. RNA decay—Jeff Coller
9. RNA and diseases—Claudia Bagni
10. RNA technologies—Matt Disney
11. System RNA biology—Gene Yeo
12. Interconnections—Karla Neugebauer
13. RNA transport: export and localization—Anita Corbett
14. RNP structure function—Kathy Collins
15. RNA architecture: structure folding and modifications—Michael Sattler
16. RNA processing—Elmar Wahle

Workshops
1. RNA Chemistry—Scott Strobel
2. RNA regulation in protozoa—Barbara Papadopoulou
3. RNA programmable genome editing—Emmanuelle Charpentier
4.  Bioinformatics of RNA interactions – Eric Westhof – Janusz Bujnicki – François Major
5. RNA editing and modification in cellular function – Marie Öhman

Chairs will select talks from abstracts submitted by conference attendees. We strongly encourage submissions for talks by students and post-docs. A program of networking opportunities and social activities is pending, and will include a Mentor-Mentee lunch and a Junior Scientist get-together.

We also invite interested scientists to consider attending two satellite meetings that will be held just before and just after this meeting. See the Satellite Meetings page for more information, or go directly to the meeting pages for the Stress-Associated RNA Granules meeting and the Cellular Dynamics of Macromolecular Complexes meeting.

Artwork: The organizers of RNA Society meeting would like to invite participants to submit artwork in consideration for the cover of the book of abstracts. Biological images and artistic renditions will be considered. Submitted images (in pdf, png, tiff or jpg) must be accompanied by a short descriptive. Please submit your image and text to benoit.chabot@nullusherbrooke.ca

It has been nine long years since the RNA Society held its annual meeting in Canada. We look forward to a rewarding, exciting conference in a new venue, and hope you will join us in making this conference the best RNA-themed conference in the world.
